Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional Provider

Premium Counseling Group’s substance abuse counselor, Mr. Felix Davila, is also certified as a Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).

NOT ALL SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELORS ARE DOT QUALIFIED SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROFESSIONALS.

The SAP is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

SAPs are required to have specialize training, credentialing and continuing education on drugs, alcohol, and are well informed of the DOT CFR 49 Part 40 regulations and SAP guidelines.

As a SAP we represent the major decision point (and in some cases the only decision point) an employer may have in choosing whether or not to place an employee behind the steering wheel of a school bus, in the cockpit of a plane, at the helm of an oil tanker, at the throttle of a train, in the engineer compartment of a subway car, or at the emergency control valves of a natural gas pipeline. Our responsibility to the public is of the utmost importance!

Our function is to protect the public’s interest and safety in an unbiased form by professionally evaluating the employee(s) and recommending appropriate education and/or treatment, follow-up tests, and aftercare.

If you are an employee who have violated a DOT drug and/or alcohol program regulation, we can help!

Substance Abuse Screening Evaluations

The purpose of screening is to identify as many potential or actual abusers as early in their use or abuse history as possible so suitable intervention services can be provided. Individuals are screened to detect the potential presence of an alcohol- or drug-related problem.

Assessments

While individuals are screened to identify the potential presence of an alcohol- or drug-related problem at the screening evaluation stage, the assessment stage takes the process a step further and confirms the existence of a problem, identifies the nature of the problem(s), and suggests appropriate avenues of treatment.

Individual and Group Therapy

Counseling can be provided at the individual or group level. Individual counseling often focuses on reducing or stopping substance use, skill building, adherence to a recovery plan, and social, family, and professional/educational goals. Group counseling is often used in addition to individual counseling to provide social reinforcement for pursuit of recovery.

Family Educational Program

Although our primary focus is directed towards the substance abuser, the entire family is encouraged to understand addiction as a primary, progressive chronic disease that affects not only the client’s quality of life, but the family and the community at large.

Our team of professionals help families understand what the disease of addiction is and how it impacts every family member. Statistics show that clients whose families participate in their drug and alcohol treatment have lower relapse rates than clients whose families are not involved.

Relationships become strained as families struggle to deal with the stress and trauma caused by addiction. Our interactive, educational programs provide a strong understanding of addiction, coping skills, healthy boundaries and 12-Step programs. The focus is on the needs of the family members and building a solid foundation as all transition from primary treatment to early recovery.

Psychoeducational Group Sessions

Psychoeducational groups are designed to educate clients about substance abuse, and related behaviors and consequences. This type of group presents structured, group‐specific content, often taught electronic media, visual presentations, and/or lectures.

Psychoeducational groups provide information designed to have a direct application to clients’ lives—to instill self‐awareness, recommend options for growth and change, find community resources that can help clients in recovery, develop an understanding of the process of recovery, and prompt people using substances to take action on their own behalf. While psychoeducational groups may inform clients about psychological issues, they do not aim at changes of the internal psychological processes of the individual, though such individual changes in thinking and feeling often do occur.

Our psychoeducational groups are highly structured and follow a preplanned curriculum based on the clients’ needs.

Holistic Life Coaching

Adopting a holistic approach to life means that your focus is directed to your mind, body and spirit as a whole. Treating the entire body, with holistic therapies, enables individuals to gain greater self-awareness and appreciation for renewed balance, health and vitality. Holistic Coaching provides the tools required to harmonise and create a more balanced, fulfilled life.

We help individuals who wish to achieve more balance in their life. By exploring, and accepting, each individual’s unique attributes, experiences, creative thinking and personal requirements a holistic coach/therapist is able to guide, motivate and inspire positive life changes. Unlike more traditional approaches to coaching, holistic coaching allows for deeper exploration and understanding of the inner interferences that create emotional blocks and hurdles. In order to overcome long-standing emotional issues healing is sometimes incorporated into the holistic coaching process.

Prevention Campaigns

We strive to participate in alcohol/drug abuse prevention campaigns within our community. The purpose of our campaigns is to promote healthy lifestyles free of alcohol, and all other mood-altering drugs.

Our alcohol prevention campaigns are designed with the goal to reduce the social acceptability of alcohol use and to challenge the notion that alcohol is part of the culture and to promote healthy alcohol-free lifestyles. Our substance abuse prevention campaigns are designed to educate the community of the negative impact substance abuse can have on their lives, family, and career.

Christian Counseling in Substance Abuse (As Requested)

Individuals may choose Christian substance abuse counseling for many reasons. If you are a Christian, or if you have a Christian upbringing but feel you have drifted away from the righteous path, then Christian counseling may be a powerful tool in helping you deal with substance abuse. If you come from a Christian background, or if you would like to begin or restore your relationship with Jesus Christ, you are more likely to get more benefits out of Christian-based counseling.

Dealing with substance abuse can make you feel feeble, weak and vulnerable enough as it is. If a Christian setting makes you feel more relaxed and open to talk about it, then that’s absolutely the route you should take.

With a Christian counselor, clients will first learn to turn their oppressions and the load of addiction over to God. Trusting one’s life to God is the fundamental belief around Christian counseling. This is understood as the only way to truly break free from the difficulties and complications substance abuse and other addictions bring into someone’s life.

Christian substance abuse counseling is always led by a Christian counselor, who recognizes and resolutely believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible as the main component of addiction recovery. Our Christian counselor is a Chaplain who is not only well versed in biblically centered doctrines but also educated and experienced as a Substance Abuse professional who combines powerful biblical principles with proven evidence-based scientific approaches to help individuals achieve soberness and remain abstinent.

Our Christian counselor utilizes the “Celebrate Recovery” evidence-based curriculum from Warren and Baker to lead his counseling sessions.
